"Steampunk is a branch of fantasy and speculative fiction, whose etymology denotes an era in which the majority of energy is derived from the direct result of steam-power. It is often set in the nineteenth century and includes strong ties with either fantasy or science-fiction, though it explores alternate explanations for historical events. Such things are analyzed in terms of what would happen if this had happened instead."
